About Us

UFP Technologies, headquartered in Georgetown, Massachusetts with twelve North American manufacturing locations, is a custom converter specializing in fabricating specialty foams, plastics, and natural fiber materials into packaging, components, and end products. The company's core business is foam fabrication, where it specializes in creating custom solutions with diverse materials and converting expertise. The company serves a myriad of manufacturing sectors, but specifically targets opportunities in the automotive, computers and electronics, medical and scientific, aerospace and defense, consumer, and industrial markets.

UFP Technologies was founded as United Packaging on the north shore of Massachusetts, in 1963, by three entrepreneurs in a garage with a band saw and a deli-slicer. They started selling fabricated Ethafoam™ brand polyethylene to General Electric as protective packaging.

By 1973, the company had expanded its expertise beyond packaging and into all aspects of foam fabrication and renamed itself United Foam Plastics Corporation to reflect more diverse product applications and the distribution of various cross linked polyethylenes.

Through the 1970s and 1980s the company expanded its geographic reach with both organic and acquisition growth. In 1993, the company diversified its product breadth with the acquisition of Moulded Fibre Technology, went public on the NASDAQ and changed its name to UFP Technologies, Inc. to reflect its technological capabilities beyond foam fabrication. The company was divided operationally into Engineered Packaging and Component Products.

UFP Technologies, Inc. continued to grow organically and through acquisition throughout the 1990s. The company expanded its foam product capabilities with the acquisitions of Pacific Foam and Foam Cutting, Engineers and then diversified into the automotive components market with the purchase of Simco Automotive in 2000.

Today the company goes to market with three major brands:
