UFP TECHNOLOGIES OFFERS SPECIALTY MOLDED FIBER
PACKAGING SOLUTIONS
Ideal for Jar Candles and Fragile Giftware

UFP Technologies, Inc. offers its Molded Fiber custom packaging solutions for cushioning and protection during shipping and handling of jar candles and fragile giftware. With a universal tray for both top and bottom of either flat or domed lid products, Molder Fiber (molded pulp, molded paper pulp) passes standard shipping tests and is less expensive than foam-based solutions. Available in four standard protective molded pulp inserts (1,3, 4 and 6 pack), and customizable for other quantities, UFP’s Molded Fiber packaging is nestable, reducing packing material shipping costs and saving space on the manufacturing floor.

Molded Fiber’s inherent resilience and blocking and bracing capabilities enable it to outperform most vacuum-formed plastic, expanded polystyrene, and corrugated designs. Breakthroughs have been achieved in the weight bearing capacity of Molded Fiber (molded pulp, molded paper pulp), offering predictable cushioning performance of less than 60 G's for products weighing up to 15 pounds.

Because it is made from abundantly available recycled paper, UFP’s Molded Fiber is a cost-effective choice for high volume products and compares favorably to other packaging mediums that have higher raw material costs. For most applications, Molded Fiber is less expensive than expanded polystyrene, vacuum formed PET and PVC, corrugated and plastic film suspension packs, resilient foams, and die-cut corrugated materials. Additionally, UFP’s Molded Fiber offers easy pack-out, minimal warehousing requirements, and low disposal costs since the packaging is also recyclable.

Molded Fiber’s inherent moisture content does not fluctuate significantly, even in especially humid environments, thereby maintaining its structural performance characteristics. This has been an important factor in assuring successful shipments to high humidity locations such as the southern U.S. and various international locations.

UFP’s Manufacturing Process
To produce its Molded Fiber (molded pulp, molded paper pulp), UFP uses an environmentally safe, continuous forming/drying manufacturing process in which vacuum and air draw a complex matrix of fibers onto a precision designed tool. No hazardous chemicals are used, and closed- loop systems result in minimal water discharge from the manufacturing process. Drying systems use efficient natural gas. Parts are automatically transferred to an in-line dryer after which they are ready for packaging or additional operations.

UFP’s Molded Fiber products are produced from a combination of recycled newsprint and recycled office ledger. UFP’s standard gray product offering is 100% post-consumer recycled material, and its pure white products are manufactured from 100% post-industrial recycled stock. UFP’s custom, proprietary equipment is designed to accommodate different stock preparations, and custom color requests will be evaluated.

UFP's after press capabilities, often used for medical packaging, involve an additional operation in which parts are pressed in precision, heated dies. This process produces an exceptionally fine, tight tolerance item with remarkable aesthetic appearance.
