Ethafoam™

Originally marketed and manufactured by Dow, Ethafoam is a non-crosslinked, closed cell, polyethylene foam now part of the Sealed Air Corporation.  It is available in densities from 1.7- to 9 pounds per cubic foot and is used extensively in packaging applications due to its resiliency, flexibility, and ability to take repeated shocks while still protecting against damage.

In regards to its basic characteristics, Ethafoam is like most polyethylene foams.  However, it is produced with a patented “Rapid Release” manufacturing process that incorporates a patented CFC free blowing agent system and accelerated curing system.  This process reduces residual blowing agents to trace amounts and helps make the material reusable and completely recyclable.

Furthermore, its high load bearing characteristics help reduce packaging costs as manufacturers can use less foam while still protecting package’s contents.   Ethafoam's durability and compressive strength also allow manufacturers to reuse it several times thereby reducing costs and minimizing impact on the environment.
