Material Handling Trays

Common applications for United Thermoforming’s capabilities include material handling trays. Typically made from heavy gauge sheet materials, these trays can be made with extremely tight tolerances to facilitate robotic handling in high volume applications.

United Thermoforming also has the unique ability to combine thermoformed rigid plastics with die cut or compression molded foams. We can transform a simple thermoformed tray into a highly protective cushion package that provides both shock and vibration protection. These packages can even be made with sterile materials in a cleanroom environment for applications like surgical instruments.

United Thermoforming’s custom material handling tray solutions are excellent for stacking.  Formed features can be included for positive stacking of your custom thermoformed trays.  United Thermoforming can engineer your trays to maintain the proper clearances to protect your component, and stack to fit in your carton or tote perfectly.  Solid, non-flexing thermoforming trays can be obtained by welding or adhering a stiffener to the bottom of tray for optimum stacking.

Engineered foam positioning pieces enable a single tray design to accommodate different products, resulting in fewer packaging SKUs and less inventory. With this concept, United Thermoforming can adapt current packaging to future product designs by using a standardized base tray and modified foam inserts, saving time and money. Additionally, a wide variety of foam colors can add a bold, distinctive look to a package, enhancing brand recognition.
