Thermoforming: Packaging, Components, & Products

Thermoforming is a process where rigid plastics, closed-cell foams, or other specialty materials are heated to a pliable forming temperature, formed to a specific shape in a mold, and trimmed to create a usable product. UFP Technologies has the ability to design and manufacture custom thermoformed solutions such as trays, blisters, clamshells, and more.

Our facilities are equipped with the latest high performance thermoforming machinery with capabilities such as cut in place forming. UFP Technologies also has multiple in-house tooling departments which provide us with the control we need to satisfy the quality work you expect.

Materials

Thanks to close relationships with top global suppliers, we can keep you up to date on all the latest materials, and identify the best ones for your application. We specialize in creating thermoformed solutions using:

  • ABS
  • APET
  • PETE
  • PETG
  • Polycarbonate
  • Polyethylene
  • Polypropylene
  • Polystyrene
  • XLPE
  • TPU

Our Solutions

Our access to a wide variety of materials allows us to produce both thin and thick-gauge thermoformed packaging and component solutions. Thin-gauge materials are more common for creating packaging and components for one-time use such as display trays, clamshells and blisters used in retail packaging applications. Thick-gauged parts satisfy protection for heavy components, while being durable enough for stacking and reuse.

UFP Technologies can accommodate your quantity needs for low-volume, mid-range-volume, and high-volume thermoforming. Whether you have a start-up project or need truckloads of thermoformed parts, we have the manufacturing flexibility to meet your demands.

Cleanroom Thermoforming

UFP Technologies has the ability to thermoform a variety of custom packaging and components within our ISO 13485 facilities which house ISO Class 8 and ISO Class 7 cleanrooms. This ensures that our customer's thermoformed solution meets quality standards and are suitable for sterile environments. UFP Technologies utilizes these capabilities to manufacture custom packaging for medical devices, surgical instruments, and orthopedic implants for some of the world’s leading medical device and orthopedic implant manufacturers.
