Position Location: Chicopee, MA

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the development and implementation of programs designed to create a culture of safety in the workplace. This position will work closely with the plant staff to ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Chairs the safety committee and ensures that management is properly advised as to safety needs and priorities.
  • Researches and implements new safety activities to keep the program fresh.
  • Walks the production floor multiple times daily over varied shifts weekly to observe work practices and assist supervisors and leads in maintaining a safe work environment throughout all shifts.
  • Acts as a conduit for safety communications with the workforce developing programs designed to improve the safety culture of both management and associates.
  • Oversees all plant incident investigations and assure corrective actions are implemented on a timely basis.
  • Maintains all documentation required to meet federal and state safety regulations.
  • Develops and publishes all safety metrics.
  • Leads the Plant Safety Team in the development and implementation of safety improvement initiatives and ongoing safety programs.
  • Manages regularly scheduled safety meetings with all plant personnel.
  • Manages the plant Safety Suggestion system and tracks and reports action item completion, via the UFPT Safety SharePoint site.
  • Manages the plant injury reporting program, and tracks and reports action item completion, via the UFPT Safety SharePoint site.
  • Provides regular updates to the Plant Manager concerning the effectiveness and performance of the Safety Management System.
  • Represents the plant in all monthly Safety Conference Calls and provides details, as necessary on all accidents occurring in the previous month.
  • Coordinates the completion of job hazard analysis to monitor and drive completion within the plant.
  • Maintains and posts the plant OSHA log.
  • Maintains appropriate safety files and records.
  • Conducts post-accident investigations.
  • Performs additional duties, as required by management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in Human Resources or applicable experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years of applicable experience with a strong safety background.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations; OSHA 30 hr certified preferred.
  • Knowledge of molding equipment, techniques and tooling a plus.
  • Desired computer skills and software including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.
