In the medical components space, our customers require solutions which comply with medical specifications and standards, use advanced medical grade materials that can withstand various types of sterilization including autoclave, EtO and gamma, and can be fabricated in cleanroom and controlled environments.

As one of the largest foam fabricators in North America, UFP Technologies has access to hundreds of medical grade materials and extensive knowledge of their unique properties allowing us to design and match materials for the appropriate application. To produce medical device components we have multiple cleanroom and controlled environment facilities, contract manufacturing capabilities and fabrication methods such as compression molding, foam die cutting, contour cutting, lamination, sealing and many more.

UFP Technologies has access to hundreds of medical grade materials, which are readily available for fabrication. These materials are compatible with multiple sterilization methods and can be processed and laundered in cleanroom and controlled environments. Commonly used materials for medical device components include the following:

Medical foams – As one of the largest fabricators of foams, we have array of medical grade closed-cell and open-cell foams. Many of these foams are compatible with autoclave, EtO and gamma sterilization methods. Open-cell foams such as reticulated polyurethane are used extensively in the medical industry due to their ability to be treated and exhibit antimicrobial properties.

Thermoplastic polyurethane films (TPU) – TPU is a durable plastic film that provides puncture and abrasion resistance. TPU meets USP Class VI standards for use with medical applications and is compatible with EtO and Gamma sterilization.

Composites – Our capabilities allow us to create specialty materials composites using foams, fabrics, films, adhesives and plastics.


UFP Technologies has five manufacturing facilities throughout the country that are ISO 13485:2003 certified which house multiple ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000) and ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) cleanroom facilities. We also utilize HEPA cleaning stations and monitor bioburden levels at numerous work centers for additional protection.
