UFP Technologies has access to a range of advanced medical grade materials. These materials are compatible with multiple sterilization methods and offer excellent puncture and abrasion resistance. The following materials are commonly used for creating our orthopedic implant packaging solutions:
Medical foams – We have access to an array of medical grade closed-cell and open-cell foams. Our medical grade foams have been tested, passed and certified to comply with the ISO 10993 protocol. Many of these foams are compatible with autoclave, EtO and gamma sterilization methods. We utilize cross-linked polyethylene foams that are impregnated with nitrogen, providing a non-toxic, hypoallergenic, latex-free solution allowing the packaging to be used in operating rooms and cleanroom environments.
Thermoplastic polyurethane films (TPU) – TPU is a durable plastic film that provides puncture and abrasion resistance. TPU meets USP Class VI standards for use with medical applications and is compatible with EtO and Gamma sterilization.
Rigid plastics – Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified (PETG), Polyethylene Terephthalate (PETE) and Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Stryrene (ABS) are commonly used thermoplastics utilized for orthopedic implant packaging due to their durability and ability to withstand sterilization.
